Abstract

The report delivers and interprets empirical data of a study on the features of mutual perception and mutual assessment in university students of different years with principally different intragroup status positions. The correlations revealed and the data obtained in the study indicate that such factors as intragroup status of the students-percipients and the very fact of their and of the students-recipients' belonging to 'us' or 'them' are crucial to the character of intergroup and interpersonal mutual perception in the contemporary student environment. Besides, the paper emphasizes that, firstly, formal student groups vary a lot in the level of their social psychological development; and secondly, interpersonal preferences in such groups are mostly determined by such factors as the stage of the individual's inclusion in the reference group of students, and they also depend on whether the student3percipient perceives this community as 'us' or 'them'.
