Teachers' Attitude towards Unified State Exam as Indicator of Student Performance and Features of Student Knowledge Assessment

Abstract

The paper draws upon the outcomes of a survey of 2156 teachers to explore the specifics of teachers' attitude to the Unified State Exam (USE) as a tool for measur- ing academic performance in students, and gives and overall view of how teachers use various knowledge assessment techniques. Moreover, the specifics of the teachers' attitude to USE and to the assessment of knowledge in students is analyzed in the con- text of the influence of various social and professional factors, such as: type of school at which the teacher works, type of teaching program, the teacher's education and qualification, years in profession, and whether or not the teacher has experience in preparing students for the Unified State Exam.
