Abstract

This article discusses the specifics of applying sociometric techniques in a cross-cultural con- text. While carrying out our research, we encountered certain difficulties using sociometrical techniques in Chinese student groups: despite the fact that the procedure of this test was care- fully followed, the students refused to participate in the survey referring to incorrect questions. Thus we had the task of adapting the sociometric method for Chinese student groups. The main components of our modification were as follows: creating an atmosphere of trust, introducing a coded questionnaire, giving additional instructions, and changing the wording of the questions.
