Guest as Special Status of 'Other'

1096

Abstract

The paper focuses on a special status of 'Guest' as a type of the 'Other' based on some cul-turally specific features of personality representations of the 'I — Other' interaction. The out-comes of the content analysis enable us to decode the social practice of hospitality, while the con¬text analysis reveals its meaning vectors (emotional, referent, supportive, vectors of symmetry, subjectiveness, sacrifice etc.). The paper provides the social psychological analysis of the social practice of hospitality from several perspectives: that of a host, of a guest, of the host's ingroup and of the guest's ingroup. The findings of the research may well be applied as a kind of a seman-tic matrix in the development of new programs and training courses in interpersonal interaction and intercultural communication between representatives of different ethnic groups.
