Cyberbullying at School as a Predictor of Difficulties in Socialization and Adaptation among First-Year Students at a Pedagogical University

Abstract

The study examines the influence of school cyberbullying experiences on the socialization and adaptation of first-year students at a pedagogical university. The group comprised 17 students (9 males and 8 females, aged 17–19); data were collected through an in-person semi-structured group interview, with core ethical procedures observed and anonymous cards used to mitigate social desirability bias. At the university stage, consequences most often manifested in three areas: exercising caution in communication and deliberate silence in the group’s digital channels, restraint in public statements during classes, and strengthened privacy/digital-hygiene practices. The findings underscore the presence of a «trace» of school cyberbullying experience at the beginning of higher education and describe certain difficulties in subsequent socialization.
