Abstract

The implementation of online education in Japanese high schools faces a number of challenges, including insufficient ICT equipment, digital divides between regions, and high teacher workloads. However, distance technologies also offer new opportunities, such as reducing regional inequality, expanding access to educational resources, and creating online learning communities. This article analyzes the key challenges and prospects for digitalization of school education in Japan based on research data conducted during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
