Modeling as a condition for creating sensible hypotheses in adolescents (using living creatures organization and functioning hypotheses as an example)

Abstract

The goal of the research was to reveal the conditions, in which children put forward sensible hypotheses on living creatures organization and functioning. The author had assumed that a model plays the main role in this process, reflecting fundamental relations and becoming a medium for concrete objective reality. An educational experiment was conducted on students of 8th and 9th grades in Moscow and Perm schools. One part of participants studied in schools with standard educational programs, the other part studied in schools that implemented the program by D.B. El'konin and V.V. Davydov. The forms of experimental learning designed in the research showed the role of modeling process in creating sensible hypotheses. The change from creating autistic (based on imagination) and egocentric (based on subjective preferences and previous experience) hypotheses to creating sensible hypotheses is realized through designing models that represent the significant relations in the studied subject.
