Individual Notions of Social Role Characteristics as Means of Orientation

906

Abstract

The paper analyses the function of individual notions of the content of such social roles as "spouse" and "parent" from the perspective of Piotr Galperin's concept of orienting activity. Research outcomes show that, when confronted with a new type of activity, individuals base their actions upon their notions about the ways in which this current activity can be carried out. These notions develop long before one begins to acquire various roles, and through their stability they become the orienting basis of the learnt activity.
