Abstract

The article presents hands-on experience obtained at the endocrinology department of the Morozov children's city clinical hospital between 2009 and 2014. It is related to support and psychological follow-up for families that have a terminally ill child (Diabetes mellitus, Type 1) by means of integrative fairytale therapy methods. An emphasis is placed on fairytale therapy methods and techniques which can be efficiently used by both patients and their parents at different stages of the disease and the process of coming to terms with it. The article gives a thorough analysis of specific metaphors and symbols which are resources for children and adolescents suffering from Diabetes mellitus, Type 1. The article may be useful for psychotherapists, medical psychologists, thyroid specialists, and parents whose children suffer from Diabetes mellitus, Type 1.
