Abstract

The contribution is dedicated to the problem of children’s anxiety. It contains a brief review of literature on this topic: definition of the concept and sources of anxiety, correlation between anxiety and fear, interrelation of anxiety and stress, anxiety’s influence on origination and development of psychosomatic disorders. A research of the level of anxiety of pupils of 3rd–4th grades was carried out within the framework of studying the stress-resistance of children of junior school age, because stress-resistance and the level of anxiety are interrelated. The present contribution presents the results of diagnostics of 70 children (36 boys and 34 girls). The diagnostics was carried out using The Children’s Form of Manifest Anxiety Scale, CMAS, which is intended to identify anxiety as a relatively stable formation among children aged from 8 to 12. The results of the research showed that 25 % of children from this sample are in the risk group, because 16 % of them have high levels of anxiety and 9 % – extremely high levels of anxiety.
