Self-attitude in the context of personal maturity characteristics in adolescents

1379

Abstract

The article is devoted to understanding the relationship between different indicators of self-attitudes and several characteristics of personal maturity (development of moral judgments, focus on self-realization, subjectivity, acceptance of the other) in adolescents. Adolescence and early adulthood is characterized by contradictoriness and insufficient maturity of self-awareness, mobility and volatility of various components of self-attitude. It is the process of self-awareness development that makes adolescents particularly vulnerable, anxious and insecure. In this connection, we formulated the hypothesis that the expression of certain aspects of personal maturity is accompanied by a less pronounced predisposition towards its own Self. To prove this, we present the results of two empirical studies. Subjects were students aged 14 to 17: 60 participants (29 boys, 31 girls) in the first study, and 213 (75 boys and 138 girls) – in the second. The following methods were used: L. Kohlberg Dilemmas; SAMOAL inventory; M. Rosenberg Self-esteem scale; T. Dembo and S. Ya. Rubinstein self-estimation method in A.M Prikhozhan modification; K. Rogers and R. Diamond Social-psychological adaptation inventory; M.A. Shchukina URSL; D. Sachs and S. Levy Incomplete sentences. The main result of both studies is that more personally mature subjects have relatively lower or unstable levels of self-respect, but higher levels of acceptance of others.
