The Relationship between Social Status and Ethnic Dispositions (Based on the Study of Moscow School-Children)

1103

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the status of the individual and the individual characteristics of ethnic dispositions. Six methods were used in the analysis of this problem, conventionally divided into two sets. Methods of the first set were used to identify the parameters of interpersonal significance, which reflected the social and status specifics of each individual in a group; the methods of the second set were used to determine the specifics of the ethnic dispositions of each participant of the study. The study involved high school students of secondary schools in the city of Moscow (N=133) and first year students from vocational college (N=68). With the help of the nonparametric analogue method of multifactor analysis - the Krusskal-Wallis H-test we show that the parameters of interpersonal value, taken both as a whole and individually, with the exception of referential, are connected to ethnic dispositions. According to the results of univariate comparisons using Mann-Whitney U-test, the obtained regularities were specified and the qualitative differences in the relationship between ethnic dispositions and social and status characteristics of participants were revealed.
