Certain personal peculiarities of conflict behavior in psychology students at early stages of education in higher educational institutions (years I-III)

Abstract

The contribution examines one of the aspects of the model of professionally important qualities of a psychologist – effective and adequate strategies of conflict behavior. It describes the conclusions of the original research as a result of which it was found that by the third year of education such strategies are gradually constructed. The analysis of scientific works on this topic which is provided in the article justifies the necessity of studying personal peculiarities of future psychology specialists and the priority of studying behavior in conflict situations. A review of research on this subject covers the classics of scientific works on the psychology of professional formation: research of E.A.Klimov, who gave an explicate characteristic of the psychologist profession as belonging to “human-human” type, E.A.Romanova, who composed psychologist’s professiogram, E.F.Zeer, who proposed to introduce psychological support on each stage of education in a higher educational institution. The contribution also includes a review of recent thesis work on the research topic. In particular, they show that the proneness to conflict of a particular person can be evaluated basing on the intensity of certain behavior strategies (O.V.Gudimenko), and that the person’s proneness to conflict behavior can be gender-related (A.B.Karpov). In our research we managed to find that there are two main reasons which determine professional formation and to describe the changes of choice of behavior strategies in conflict situations depending on socio-psychological and socio-age-related peculiarities of professional formation.
