On some socio-psychological peculiarities of perception of portrait painting

The contribution presents the results of a theoretical-empirical research of social perception of art. The aim of the work was to study the socio-psychological peculiarities of perception of painting objects by students. The hypothesis of the research was the existence of a specific relationship between the social perception of portrait painting and personal characteristics of the students who perceive the object. The following methods were used: S.Shwartz’s method for research of a person’s values, diagnostics of socio-psychological adaptation (C.Rogers, R.Diamond), original author’s questionnaire for identification of peculiarities of art perception. 163 students of the 2nd year of psychological and art departments of Moscow higher education institutions (35 boys and 128 girls) participated in the research. On a statistically significant level (р ≤ 0,05) it was proved that the perception of portrait painting is not only determined by the peculiarities of the value orientations and socio-psychological adaptation of the students, but is also defined by the relationship of the professional orientation of the recipients and their social mindset toward the author of the art object.
