Structural Organisation of Envy: A Systematic Approach

1121

Abstract

The paper addresses the structural organisation of envy as social psychological attitude from the perspective of the systematic approach in the following ways: it defines the core factor of envy as systematic formation; reveals its components basing on the 'interassistance' criterion; analyses the functions of envy subsystems carried out on personal and social levels; reviews the structural organization of envy through the connections and relationships between the components. As it is concluded, envy is structurally organized, with certain ontological levels (psychophysiological, psycho2 logical, social psychological and social). In terms of epistemology this structural organization of envy is represented by the following basic system levels: metasystem (personality), system (one's attitude of envy), subsystems (one's attitude toward the superior other, the subject of his/her superiority and to oneself), components (cognitive, affective, related to needs, behavioural, and moral and value2related), and elements. The final outcome of the analysis is a detailed definition of envy provided by the authors.
