Abstract

The paper presents findings of a research on structural, affective and cognitive aspects of family identity in gay couples. The research revealed the following: firstly, the men in the couples perceive their relationship as an independent family with clearly defined limits; secondly, the emotional significance of the partner and of oneself in the subjects is generally high, while that of parents is obviously lower, in some cases reaching emotional rejection; thirdly, the subjects see their own family as a group with exclusive emotional relationships and shared values and goals; finally, as the family members, the subjects tend to characterize themselves in terms of their responsibility for the quality and stability of the relationships.
