About the Risks and Cognitive Impairments Associated with the Transition from Handwriting to Typewriting in the Digital Age
Abstract
This article is devoted to one of the fundamental transformations in human social life associated with the transformation of writing in connection with the global digitalization of society, namely, the transition from manual writing to keyboard typing. The paper proves the unwisdom and impossibility of replacing handwriting with typewriting, in particular in the field of education, due to the special importance of the first method of writing in the formation of an individual's basic cognitive abilities (the link between the development of fine motor skills of the hands and the effect on brain structures is shown, the available data on the effect on memory, thinking and other cognitive functions of students with different types of writing are studied). Conclusions are drawn about the safety and indispensability of handwriting, the importance of developing fine motor skills, and appropriate recommendations are given.
