The Crisis of Written Assignments: The Need to Change the Format of Student Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence

4

Abstract

The article examines the problem of transformation of written assignments in the context of the rapid spread of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, which significantly change the nature of interaction between students and teachers.; Based on empirical data obtained in 2024-2025, the author captures the asymmetry of AI perception in the educational environment: students actively use neural network tools to prepare abstracts, reports and essays, which they openly admit, while teachers, especially representatives of older age groups, have serious difficulties understanding the potential of AI and are wary of its use. The study raised questions about how the use of AI affects educational tasks that include not only learning, but also education, and what new formats of assignments and teaching methods can be introduced into university practice. Quantitative methods of analyzing personal data were used, covering a sample of students and teachers, which revealed statistically significant differences in attitudes towards AI, as a result, it was concluded that the role of written assignments should be rethought: they should lose the function of a mechanical knowledge test and acquire the status of a tool for developing critical thinking and ethical responsibility. In conclusion, the author discusses the prospects for adapting higher education to new conditions, including the introduction of interactive forms of learning, the development of ethical standards for the use of AI and the improvement of digital competence of teachers.
