From Intercultural Communication to Communication with the Other: Neural Network Models and the Transformation of Foreign Language Learning Experiences

12

Abstract

The article explores the transformation of learning foreign languages under the influence of Large language models (LLM). The author traces the evolution from the traditional concept of "intercultural communication", where a native speaker of a language and culture acted as the "Other", to communication with the «Other», which is played by artificial intelligence (AI). The digital tool is devoid of cultural experience and emotions, but offers constant accessibility and personal adaptation. The paper examines in detail both the opportunities and challenges of the new educational environment. The advantages and disadvantages of this transition are analyzed. Overcoming social anxiety, fears and other barriers makes it possible to create a safe learning process and attract more students to linguistic practice. However, the nuances are emphasized: the linguistic sterility of AI and the absence of a live interlocutor. In conclusion, the author concludes that the role of the teacher has radically changed and that teaching methods need to be revised. The teacher should be a guide in the world of digital intercultural communication, developing students' unique human competencies that are inaccessible to AI: critical assessment of information, formulation of questions, development of communication skills.
