The Correlation between Verbal Aggression and the Use of Youth Slang in Older Adolescence

Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of the correlation between verbal aggression and the intensity of the use of youth slang by adolescents aged 14-16. The study involved 60 subjects. Methods were used: a questionnaire (an author’s questionnaire that allows you to determine the intensity of the use of youth slang) and the method “Types of aggressiveness” (L.G. Pochebut, 2012; based on A. Buss, A. Durkey, 1957), which allows you to identify the level of verbal aggression in older adolescents. The hypotheses tested were: there is a correlation between verbal aggression and the use of youth slang in older adolescence; the intensity of the use of youth slang affects the level of verbal aggression in older adolescence; the more intense the use of youth slang, the higher the level of verbal aggression in older adolescence. The hypothesis of the study was confirmed: it was noted that adolescents who intensively use youth slang in their speech demonstrate a higher level of verbal aggression; adolescents who do not use youth slang have a low level of verbal aggression.
