Abstract

The author presented the approaches of L.S. Vygotsky and G.G. Shpet to thinking and speech as complementary. G.G. Shpet interprets the word as an archetype of culture, the embodiment of reason and as an organ of accomplishment of thought. L.S. Vygotsky believes that in the word there is a living unity of sound and meaning, which contains the main properties of speech thinking. The article also considers the interpretation by these authors of the meaning and meaning of the word.
