On Certain Psychological-Methodical Aspects of Teaching English Phonetics in Primary School

Abstract

The article examines the specifics of teaching English phonetics in junior grades of general education school from the perspective of method of teaching of foreign languages, history and practice of teaching of foreign language communication, and taking into account the cognitive specifics of pupils of this age group. The aim of this research is the optimization of the process of teaching phonetics taking into consideration the difficulties arising in partnership interaction of teacher and pupil. In the course of the work the existing system of presentation of phonetic material is characterized. At the same time the authors point out excessive integration of this aspect with other fields of foreign language teaching. Specific attention is paid to the development of national methodology and didactics and their influence on teaching of the phonetic aspect. The author uses materials which he collected through personal experience of teaching English in a secondary general education school. Practical recommendations are given on optimization of educational process by way of activation of psychic qualities of pupils in the process of teaching the basics of English phonetics and wider implementation of mnemonic memorizing techniques.
