Application of the Engineering Psychology Concepts to Professions Traditionally Not Considered as Operator-Oriented

Abstract

Introduction of new information technologies leads to changes in representations of professional labor and professionals. In the changed conditions of life and activity there is a necessity for a new conceptual approach to the development of professionalism. This approach should include the achievements of various fields of psychology. The paper shows that existing theoretical assumptions and the accumulated empirical material can become the basis of this approach. The systemic principle in conjunction with the anthropocentric, natural scientific and cultural-historical paradigms constitutes the methodological basis of the proposed approach, thus it allows to combine humanities values with algorithmic techniques. The professionalism as a systemic formation is analyzed in view of its functional, morphological and information properties. The possibility of extending engineering and psychological concepts onto the professional activities, traditionally considered as non-operator’s is discussed. The proposed approach allows to formulate criteria for evaluation of professionalism, as well as contribute to practical solutions of problems of training of professionals in the new environment.
