Coping strategies in adapting to the environment of other cultures

The article is devoted to the adaptation to foreign culture environment and connections of successful adaptation with different coping strategies; we generalized theoretical propositions about the adaptation process, the concepts of stress and "coping strategies. We describe various approaches to adaptation as a stressful situation (M. Hammer, W.B. Gudykunst and R.L. Wiseman, J. Berry, D. Guerrkro) and classification of coping strategies (A. Billings, R. Moos, M. Perret, M. Rayhar). We discuss the processes of coping and adaptation necessary for a comprehensive analysis of the situation of living in a new culture. We show connections between the type of coping strategies chosen (cognitive, emotional or behavioral) and the use of particular strategies of acculturation. We emphasize that socio-psychological work with processes and phenomena that determine the use of effective coping strategies is necessary for successful adaptation.
