The specificity of manifestations of the professional burnout syndrome in practicing psychologists

The article describes the stages of studying the phenomenon of burnout, as a specific type of disease in professionals working with people. The causes of burnout are features of professional work and a number of individual psychological characteristics of personality. We reveal aspects of the impact of professional burnout syndrome in the structure of personality of a psychologist and specialist’s areas of life. We analyzed the permissible development of the phenomenon as an imbalance in the ratio of positive and negative personality changes of a professional. Psychodynamics of the phenomenon is manifested by progressive indifference to what is happening at work, professional activities, dehumanization in the form of negativity in relation to both clients and colleagues, a sense of personal professional insolvency and job dissatisfaction. Professional burnout syndrome is shown as a process of gradual loss of emotional, cognitive and physical energy, which is manifested in the symptoms of mental, emotional exhaustion, personal detachment and reducing of satisfaction by professional activities. A gradual change in the individual personality fragments not only deprives the expert from being fully realized in the profession, but also causes addiction to negative trends, which are gradually becoming an integral part of the self. We identified and described certain effects specific for psychological activity which reveal themselves in everyday life, affecting not only the subjective sphere of the specialist, but also his attitude towards others and life in general. We declared major ways of preventing the development of this syndrome.
