Social Psychological Readiness for Marriage and Family in Russian University Students

Described here are the materials of an empirical study on the character of social psychological readiness for marriage and family in modern Russian university students. The paper presents the data obtained in the study and gives some interpretations concerning the correlation between marriage and family readiness of the subjects and certain factors, such as their age, sex, and the location of their universities (capital/regions). At the same time, high importance of family and family values to the subjects revealed in the study can be interpreted in terms of the subjects' orientation towards individualism and egalitarianism in family relationships as opposed to the orientation on strict distribution of authority and responsibility within family. Finally, the paper provides some data on the effectiveness of social psychological trainings in advancing marriage and family readiness in various categories of Russian university students.
