Comparative Analysis of Students' Educational Needs in the Digital Environment

Abstract

Just a few years ago, it was difficult to imagine the current scale of application of intelligent technologies in the education system and in higher education institutions, in particular. The development of intelligent technologies is actively changing the educational needs and expectations of students from the educational process. This article examines the changing preferences of students regarding the type of teacher, comparing data for 2018 and 2024. The sample included 649 full-time students from Moscow. It was assumed that intelligent technologies have a significant impact on the changing educational needs of modern students. The methodology "Educational Needs of Learners" was used to study the academic preferences of students. The results of the study show that students of 2018 have a greater preference for a "professional" teacher. In 2024, students demonstrated, on the one hand, a more balanced distribution of preferences among four types of teachers: "professional", "tutor", "moderator" and "facilitator" than students of 2018. On the other hand, it was the "facilitator" teacher who received more options to choose from among students of 2024 compared to other types of university teachers. This preference indicates a shift to a more learner-centered approach, which prioritizes individual learning and creative autonomy. The study emphasizes the importance of adapting teaching strategies to the requirements of modern education.
