Role Identity as an Integral Characteristic of Social Situation of Adolescent’s Development

Abstract

The article describes an experimental research of adolescents’ role identity. Main structural components of role identity are analyzed – role depth, role flexibility, locus of role conflict - their connection to personal and social characteristics of adolescent development is identified. Data is cited which illustrates the specifics of inner role conflict origination among adolescents. A hypothesis is made that role conflict at this age is based on position-role contradictions. A conclusion is made on the basis of analysis of empiric material that role identity can be rightfully viewed as an integral characteristic of social situation of adolescent’s development.
