Abstract

This article discusses the use of closely related but distinct concepts in Russian psychological discourse. These concepts have entered the scientific vocabulary as Russian translations of “resilience” – “zhiznesposobnost” or as a tracing from English, “resilentnost”. Two established traditions of using these constructs are analyzed, and arguments are presented in favor of the term “zhiznesposobnost” as consistent with both current trends in interpreting the term “resilience” in international research and the traditions of Russian philosophical and psychological thoughts. Methodological and methodical issues related to the questionnaires used in this area are discussed.
